Central Board of Direct Tax(CBDT) Extends last date to update UDIN's

UDIN is an initiative taken by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) to curb/ limit misrepresentation by the third person posing as Chartered Accountants.UDIN is compulsory for all the certificates, GST and tax audit as well as all audits and assurance functions issued by the Chartered Accountant


UDIN is a unique process adopted by the ICAI to curb misrepresentation by any third person, posing as CA, who generally forge signatures on the documents to mislead various authorities.


How to Register UDIN on UDIN Portal?

Before generating UDIN, one needs to first obtain registration on the UDIN site. Steps for obtaining the registration are stated hereunder-

  • Visit site https://udin.icai.org/.
  • Click ‘First time Sign Up? Click Here’ available on the right-hand side of the page.
  • Enter the following details-
  1. Membership Number,
  2. Date of Birth, and
  3. Year of Enrolment.
  • Send OTP.
  • OTP will be received on the mobile number and e-mail ID registered with ICAI. Enter the OTP received and click ‘Continue’.



Extension of Date to update UDIN's:

The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) has notified the extension of last Date for updating Unique Document Identification Number (UDINs)  for all the Income Tax forms at the e-filing portal to 31st January 2022. CBDT vide its press release dated 26th November 2020 has mandated the validation of the Unique Document Identification Number (UDIN) generated from ICAI portal in all the Income Tax Form and Audit Reports uploaded at the e-filing portal.


The CBDT is in process of mandating the updation of UDINs for all Income Tax Forms prior to its upload on the e-filing portal by the members. In other words, members would be required to first generate UDIN and provide the same while uploading the Income Tax forms.
