The building, remodelling, maintenance, and demolition of homes, big building structures, highways, bridges, piers, and dams results in the production of construction and demolition (C&D) debris. Wood, steel, concrete, gypsum, masonry, plaster, metal, and asphalt make up C&D trash.

Construction and demolition waste is generated whenever any construction/demolition activity takes place, such as, building roads, bridges, fly over, subway, remodelling etc. It consists mostly of inert and non-biodegradable material such as concrete, plaster, metal, wood, plastics etc.

Demolition is the process of tearing down, razing, destroying, or otherwise destroying a building or structure, in whole or in part. Many of the risks involved in construction are present during demolition work. Yet, demolition activity is particularly perilous because it entails additional risks as a result of unknowable elements.

In order to make room for newer construction, existing buildings and structures must be safely removed through a planned demolition process. Every structure has a lifespan, or “design life,” which typically lasts between 80 and 100 years. As a building reaches this point, it often encounters some challenges.
