Construction and Demolition (C&D) Waste Recycling

India generates over 150 million tonnes of Construction & Demolition (C&D) waste annually — concrete, brick, mortar, steel, glass, wood, ceramics, plastics from construction, demolition, road works, and renovation. By 2026, the regulatory framework — the Construction and Demolition Waste Management Rules 2016 — has established the architecture for processing this waste into Recycled Coarse Aggregates (RCA), Recycled Fine Aggregates (RFA), and manufactured sand (M-Sand) — products that substitute virgin natural aggregates in non-structural concrete, road sub-base, paver blocks, kerb stones, and landscaping. Cities are increasingly mandating a percentage of recycled C&D content in public works.

What's Inside a C&D Recycling Plant

• Receiving Yard:: Weighbridge, segregation area, contaminant removal (rebar, plastics, hazardous fragments), staging.

• Processing Line:: Primary crusher (jaw crusher), secondary crusher (cone / VSI), screening, magnetic separation (rebar / steel), air classification (light contaminants), washing (where moisture allows).

Why C&D Recycling Is a Real Business

India's annual C&D waste generation will grow with infrastructure spending. Natural aggregates are increasingly scarce in urban centres. Government policy (Swachh Bharat 2.0, Smart Cities, BMTPC guidelines) mandates percentage-of-recycled-content in public works. Tipping fee from ULB (₹100-300 per tonne) plus revenue from recycled aggregate sales (₹400-1,200 per tonne depending on grade) plus recovered steel value (₹25-35 per kg) makes the unit economics work for well-located plants near major urban centres.
