FAQs

Frequently asked questions

Are the new 12.5% / 20% rates applicable for FY 2026-27?+
Yes. Rates apply to all transfers from 23 July 2024 onwards (Finance Act 2024). Earlier transfers in FY 2024-25 follow old rates (10% LTCG / 15% STCG).
Is indexation gone for property?+
Default LTCG on land/buildings/unlisted is 12.5% without indexation. For assets ACQUIRED BEFORE 23 Jul 2024 (resident individuals/HUFs only), there's an option to compute at 20% WITH indexation and pay the lower tax — toggle 'Apply indexation'.
Why is debt MF taxed at slab?+
Debt mutual funds purchased on or after 1 April 2023 are taxed at slab rate regardless of holding period (no LTCG benefit). Older units holding > 36 months get LTCG at 20% with indexation; > 24 months from FY 2024-25.
