The Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA), constituted under the APEDA Act, 1985, is the statutory export-promotion body for India's agro and processed-food export sector. For exporters of any product listed in the APEDA Schedule โ fresh fruits and vegetables, processed fruits and vegetables, meat and meat products, poultry and dairy products, confectionery, biscuits and bakery, honey, jaggery and sugar products, cocoa products, alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, cereals, groundnuts, peanuts, walnuts, pickles, papad, chutneys, guar gum, herbal and medicinal plants, and floriculture โ APEDA Registration-cum-Membership Certificate (RCMC) is mandatory before claiming any export benefit, and effectively before any commercially serious export.
By 2026, APEDA registration is fully online through www.apeda.gov.in, with the certificate issued in digital form and now valid for five financial years (in line with the FTP 2023 RCMC validity reform). The registration unlocks access to the full APEDA Financial Assistance Scheme โ subsidies on packaging development, infrastructure, quality testing, brand development, transport assistance for perishable cargo, market development including international trade-fair participation, and air-freight subsidies for floriculture and selected horticulture exports. It also enables participation in APEDA's buyer-seller meets, virtual trade-fair platforms, and the Indian agri brand marquee programmes in identified focus markets.
Most rejections at first application happen because the exporter applied without IEC linkage, missed the bank-certificate format, applied under the wrong product schedule, or had GSTIN-PAN-IEC name mismatches.
