End-to-end GST registration across India β REG-01, Aadhaar OTP / biometric verification, CGST + SGST + IGST jurisdiction allotment, e-invoicing, LUT for exports and ISD for multi-State entities.
GST registration is the entry ticket to almost every taxable activity in India by FY 2026-27 β and the single most common compliance step founders, traders and service providers complete in their first 90 days of business. The threshold is βΉ40 lakh aggregate annual turnover for goods (βΉ20 lakh in special category States) and βΉ20 lakh for services, computed PAN-wise across taxable, exempt and inter-State supplies. Below the threshold, registration is voluntary unless the business is pulled into compulsory registration under Section 24 β inter-State supply, e-commerce operator / supplier on ECO, casual taxable person, non-resident taxable person, OIDAR, reverse-charge liability, agent of a principal or input service distributor.
The registration itself is fully online via www.gst.gov.in (GSTN) on Form REG-01, with Aadhaar OTP authentication as the default and biometric verification at a Goods and Services Tax Suvidha Kendra (GSK) for higher-risk applicants β newer entities, certain sectors, certain pin codes flagged by the system. After successful authentication, an Application Reference Number (ARN) is generated typically within 1β3 days, and the GSTIN is allotted within 7β15 days. Yet rejection rates remain meaningful β wrong jurisdiction selection, principal-place-of-business address mismatch, society NOC missing, electricity bill in someone else's name, biometric appointment skipped, or HSN / SAC code that contradicts the declared business activity β each is a routine reason for ARN rejection or post-registration scrutiny.
Legal Suvidha registers, configures and operationalises GST for businesses across India β across CGST + SGST + IGST, with industry-specific add-ons (e-invoicing for βΉ5 crore+ aggregate turnover, LUT for zero-rated exports, ISD for multi-State entities, casual taxable person registration for trade fairs and exhibitions, composition scheme for small traders). The first return is calendared so the business does not slip into late-filing penalties in month one.
Even below the turnover threshold, GST registration is mandatory if the person:
(a) makes any inter-State taxable supply; (b) is a casual taxable person making taxable supply; (c) is required to pay tax under reverse charge; (d) is an e-commerce operator or supplier on an e-commerce platform liable to collect TCS under Section 52; (e) is a non-resident taxable person; (f) supplies online information and database access or retrieval services (OIDAR) from outside India to an unregistered person in India; (g) is required to deduct TDS under Section 51; (h) is an Input Service Distributor; (i) is an agent supplying on behalf of another taxable person.
CGST Zone vs State Tax circle picked correctly based on turnover and pin code; no mid-process re-allocation or scrutiny later.
Society NOC, lease / rent agreement, electricity bill alignment β biometric verification visit goes through cleanly first time.
IT / SaaS place-of-supply, financial services exemption mapping, exporter LUT, multi-State ISD β set up at registration, not retrofitted.
Aadhaar OTP authentication; biometric appointment scheduling at the GSK; documentation prepared so the visit is a 15-minute event.
GSTR-1, GSTR-3B, GSTR-9 due dates calendared; e-invoicing trigger at βΉ5 crore monitored; first return filed without scramble.
Parallel onboardings β IEC for export, FSSAI for food, Shop & Establishment, Udyam for MSME β handled in one project, not relay-race.
Turnover, business model, principal place of business, partners / directors, sectoral nuances, Section 24 triggers β confirmed.
PAN, Aadhaar, photographs, society NOC, electricity bill, lease / rent, bank, MOA / AOA / partnership deed; Class-3 DSC for company / LLP.
REG-01 filed online with all documents; Aadhaar OTP authentication; ARN issued within 1β3 days.
GSK appointment booked; in-person biometric and document verification; clarifications on REG-03 / REG-04 addressed promptly.
GSTIN issued; certificate in Form REG-06 downloaded; place-of-business display certificate generated and printed.
Return calendar set; e-invoicing setup (if eligible); LUT for exports; ISD for multi-branch; first return filed on due date.
PAN; Aadhaar; passport-size photograph; DSC (Class-3) for companies / LLPs; authorisation letter; specimen signature
Certificate of Incorporation / Partnership Deed / LLP Agreement; MOA & AOA; PAN of entity; board resolution; bank current-account proof (cancelled cheque / statement)
Electricity bill (recent); lease / rent agreement (registered for >12 months); society NOC; property tax receipt (if owned)
List of HSN / SAC codes; nature of business activities; details of additional places of business; logistics arrangement; goods / services list
Existing IEC; AD bank code; food licence / drug licence (where applicable); Shop & Establishment registration; Udyam
