India Raises Basic Wage Ceiling to ₹25,000
The Ministry of Labour & Employment has issued a revised wage ceiling of ₹25,000 per month effective October 1 2026, updating the Basic Wages and Variable Dearness Allowance (VDA) under the Code on Social Security, 2020. The change aligns with the latest Consumer Price Index for Industrial Workers (CPI‑IW) for August 2026 and aims to standardise minimum earnings across sectors.
The Ministry of Labour & Employment announced that, from 1 October 2026, the basic wage ceiling for employees will be set at ₹25,000 per month, with a revised Variable Dearness Allowance (VDA) as per the Code on Social Security, 2020.
