Panasonic Energy India Company Ltd (PECIN), an arm of the Japanese conglomerate, may be forced to shut its sole battery plant in India due to high compliance costs under the Battery Waste Management Rules.

The company's Chairman and Managing Director, Fujita, has expressed concern over the high costs of implementing the new regulations. According to reports, the company has written to the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoE&F) seeking relief from the regulations.

\- PECIN has been struggling to meet the new regulations which mandate the collection and recycling of spent batteries.
