FAQs
Frequently asked questions
Why is take-home so different from CTC?+
CTC includes employer-borne costs (PF, NPS, gratuity, insurance) that don't reach you. Then employee PF, professional tax and income tax further reduce take-home. Net is usually 60-75% of CTC depending on regime and deductions.
Should I push for higher Basic?+
Higher Basic increases your PF (forced saving) and gratuity, but also reduces immediate cash. For HRA optimisation, higher Basic helps if you pay high rent. For new regime users, it's mostly neutral.
