DPIIT Startup India recognition for FY 2026-27 โ unlock Section 80-IAC tax holiday, angel-tax position, SISFS grant, IPR rebate and GeM tender benefits.
You're building something new โ a SaaS product, a DeepTech prototype, a D2C brand, a fintech rail โ and you want India's government to recognise that work. Startup India recognition (DPIIT recognition) is how you get on the official map. Once recognised, your entity is treated differently by the tax department, by government tender portals, by patent offices, and by funding schemes that only release money to recognised startups.
Recognition itself is one certificate. What sits behind it is a stack of separate benefits โ the Section 80-IAC three-year tax holiday, the Section 56(2)(viib) position, the Startup India Seed Fund Scheme up to โน70 lakh, an 80% patent-fee rebate, GeM tender preferences, and self-certification under nine labour and three environmental laws. Each benefit needs its own filing.
Several rules around startup tax, funding and compliance have shifted in the last two years. Here is what genuinely affects a 2026 application.
The DPIIT certificate is the credential. The real value sits in what it unlocks across tax, funding, intellectual property and procurement.
We treat recognition not as a single form-fill but as a sequenced workstream where the DPIIT certificate starts a six-month claim cycle across tax, funding and IP.
Before any portal is opened, we run the entity through the five eligibility tests โ age, turnover, structure, innovation or scalability, and reconstruction. If you incorporated as an OPC, we discuss conversion to Private Limited first.
In parallel, we draft the innovation or scalability narrative in writing. This is the document the DPIIT desk officer actually reads. We anchor it on the specific problem, the technology or operating-model differentiator, and the scalability vector.
The application is filed on startupindia.gov.in with the Certificate of Incorporation, MOA/AOA or LLP agreement, PAN, innovation narrative, pitch deck, founder profiles and prototype or customer evidence. If DPIIT raises a clarification, we usually answer same-day inside the 15-day window.
DPIIT issues the recognition certificate digitally. The entity is tagged on the Startup India portal with a unique DIPP number โ the credential you cite in every downstream application.
This is a separate application to the Inter-Ministerial Board. It needs audited or provisional financials, a year-wise business plan, the innovation narrative refreshed for tax-claim language, and a clear choice of which three of the first ten years the holiday will be taken in.
The 3-year window is chosen against modelled profit, not against incorporation date. We draft the IMB-facing memo so that scrutiny rounds get clean, document-backed answers rather than fresh drafting.
For any planned issuance โ especially to non-resident investors โ we document the Section 56(2)(viib) eligibility position, the Rule 11UA valuation, and the paid-up capital plus share premium calculation. The ceiling and restricted-asset conditions are checked before the round closes, not after.
We identify a SISFS-empanelled incubator aligned with the sector, draft the seed-fund application to that incubator's rubric, route patent or trademark filings through a DPIIT-empanelled IPR facilitator, and complete GeM seller registration with the startup tag active.
We file the self-certification declarations for the nine labour and three environmental laws, and hand over a calendar tracking the 10-year recognition horizon, the chosen 80-IAC window, the โน100 crore turnover boundary, and each benefit's claim date.
Consider a Private Limited Company incorporated on 1 July 2024, building a B2B AI workflow tool. The founders take recognition in early 2026, by which point they have a working product, 12 paying customers and โน85 lakh in annual recurring revenue.
Total measurable benefit across tax, grant, IPR and tender access in the first 24 months sits at roughly โน1.7 crore in retained cash and waived costs, against a professional-fee outlay under โน2 lakh.
Recognition is not a 'file and forget' certificate. Several items have to be tracked across the window so benefits are not lost and status is not put at risk.
DPIIT recognition is a credential. The Section 80-IAC tax holiday, the SISFS grant and the Section 56 exemption are each separate applications with their own evidence packs.
Most rejections, queries and lost benefits trace back to a small set of avoidable errors.
Send us your Certificate of Incorporation, PAN, MOA/AOA or LLP agreement, founder profiles, current pitch deck and any prototype, customer or revenue evidence on hand. We run the five eligibility tests, give you a written go or no-go view, and design the innovation narrative before any portal is touched.
Once the DPIIT recognition certificate is in hand, we sequence the 80-IAC IMB application, the SISFS engagement through an empanelled incubator, the IPR facilitator routing, the GeM seller registration and the self-certification filings as parallel workstreams over the next 60 to 90 days. You get a single point of contact for the entire stack and a calendar that tracks every benefit against the 10-year recognition horizon.
We run the five eligibility tests โ entity type, age, turnover, innovation and reconstruction โ and build the innovation narrative in writing before opening the portal. Rejection risk drops sharply when the DPIIT desk officer reads a defensible document, not a generic claim.
The three-year 100% profit deduction is a separate IMB application sequenced after recognition. We pick the 3-of-10-year window against modelled profitability so the holiday actually shelters taxable income rather than nil-profit years.
Each non-resident funding round closes with a Rule 11UA valuation, an eligibility memo and a CBDT-aligned position on file. Historic-period assessments and foreign-investor issuances are protected, not exposed.
We map a SISFS-empanelled incubator aligned with your sector and draft the application against that incubator's rubric. Up to โน20 lakh in prototype grant and โน50 lakh in convertible debt are accessible through this channel.
Patent and trademark filings routed through a DPIIT-empanelled IPR facilitator carry 80% and 50% fee rebates respectively, plus expedited examination at the Indian Patent Office.
GeM seller registration is activated with the startup tag for prior-turnover and EMD waivers in central and state tenders. Self-certification under 9 labour and 3 environmental laws runs for 5 years from recognition.
We run the entity through age, turnover, structure, innovation and reconstruction tests and draft the innovation narrative in writing. A written go or no-go decision is shared before any portal is touched.
Application filed on startupindia.gov.in with Certificate of Incorporation, MOA/AOA or LLP agreement, PAN, narrative, pitch deck, founder profiles and evidence. Acknowledgement number captured and tracked.
DPIIT issues the recognition certificate digitally with the unique DIPP number. Any clarification raised by the desk is answered same-day inside the 15-day response window.
Separate application to the Inter-Ministerial Board with provisional or audited financials, year-wise business plan and 3-year window choice. IMB queries pre-empted through the position memo.
For non-resident funding rounds, the Rule 11UA valuation, eligibility memo and paid-up-plus-premium ceiling check are documented before round closure. CBDT-facing protection is locked at the round, not after assessment.
SISFS application routed through the right empanelled incubator. IPR filings routed through a DPIIT-empanelled facilitator. GeM seller profile registered with startup tag active.
Self-certification declarations filed for the 9 labour and 3 environmental laws. A calendar is handed over tracking the 10-year recognition horizon, the chosen 80-IAC window, the โน100 crore turnover boundary and each benefit's claim date.
Professional assistance with no hidden charges. Clear milestones and honest communication.
