Get a CGWA-compliant hydrogeological survey report by qualified hydrogeologists โ pumping tests, NABL water quality, recharge plan, and EIA baseline included.
Your factory, hotel, or housing project needs a reliable water supply โ and the regulator wants proof that extraction will not damage the aquifer. A hydrogeological survey gives you both: a science-backed picture of what lies underground, and a report that holds up at the Central Ground Water Authority (CGWA), in EIA baseline submissions, and before the National Green Tribunal (NGT). Done by a qualified hydrogeologist, it converts an opaque question โ how much water is actually there? โ into defensible numbers.
India's groundwater rules have tightened steadily. CGWA's online NOC portal, MoEF's EIA Notification 2006, and a series of NGT orders now require a survey report backed by pumping tests and NABL-accredited water quality analysis. Getting this right the first time saves months of back-and-forth with regulators and, more importantly, protects your project from approvals that later unravel.
India's groundwater regulatory environment moved quickly in 2024-25. Here is what has changed and what it means for your CGWA NOC or EIA groundwater baseline in FY 2026-27.
The survey runs in six phases. Each phase feeds the next, so skipping or compressing any one degrades the defensibility of the final report.
We begin by confirming the use-case โ CGWA NOC, EIA baseline, or standalone project planning โ and gathering existing data. CGWB district hydrogeological reports, topographic and geological maps, satellite imagery, and any existing borewell or piezometer records in the vicinity are reviewed. This desk study prevents field duplication and directs the geophysical survey toward the most productive zones on your site.
A senior hydrogeologist visits the site to observe surface geology, drainage patterns, land use, and visible groundwater indicators. Resistivity / Vertical Electrical Sounding (VES) surveys are conducted across the site. VES curves identify subsurface lithology, aquifer thickness, depth to the water table, and saline intrusion risk. Borewell location, depth, and casing design recommendations follow directly from the interpreted profiles.
Once a borewell is available โ existing or newly drilled โ a step-drawdown test, followed by a constant-rate pumping test (typically 24โ72 hours) and a recovery phase, is conducted. Data is analysed using standard methods (Theis, Cooper-Jacob) to compute transmissivity, hydraulic conductivity, storativity, and the sustainable yield: the rate at which the aquifer can be safely extracted without long-term depletion.
Water samples are collected mid-test under chain-of-custody protocol and dispatched to an NABL-accredited (ISO 17025) laboratory. Analysis covers physico-chemical parameters (pH, TDS, hardness, fluoride, nitrate, arsenic, iron), a heavy metals panel, and microbiological indicators. Results determine whether the water meets BIS 10500 drinking water standards or the applicable criteria for your intended industrial use.
Recharge-discharge balance for the site and surrounding aquifer zone is computed using pumping test parameters and local rainfall data. Artificial recharge structures โ rooftop rainwater harvesting pits, percolation ponds, recharge wells โ are designed proportionate to the proposed extraction volume. CGWA's 2024 revised guidelines require the recharge plan to match or exceed extraction demand; this step ensures your plan clears that threshold.
The comprehensive Hydrogeological Survey Report is drafted covering site description, geology, geophysics results, pumping test analysis, water quality findings, sustainable yield, recharge plan, and conclusions. A senior hydrogeologist peer-reviews and signs off before submission. The final report is formatted for CGWA portal upload, EIA baseline appendix, or project records โ whichever your regulatory context requires.
A food-processing plant in Karnal district, Haryana โ classified semi-critical by CGWA โ required a NOC for 80 mยณ/day extraction for process water and cooling. Here is how the numbers worked out.
The hydrogeological report was uploaded to the CGWA portal with geo-tagged field photographs and digitised VES datasets. CGWA issued the NOC in the subsequent review cycle โ 14 weeks from first engagement to approval.
A hydrogeological survey is a point-in-time study. CGWA NOCs and EIA clearances attach ongoing conditions that must be met year-on-year to keep the approval in force.
NGT and CGWA can call for monitoring records at short notice during complaint proceedings. Gaps in quarterly logs are treated as non-compliance โ not as a minor administrative oversight.
Most CGWA NOC rejections and EIA groundwater objections trace back to a small set of avoidable errors โ all of which can be caught at the scoping stage.
The pumping test duration matters as much as the test itself. A test run for fewer hours than the aquifer's hydraulic response time cannot yield reliable transmissivity values โ CGWA reviewers examine raw drawdown curves to check this.
Share your site coordinates, the intended use of the water (drinking, process, irrigation, or cooling), your estimated daily extraction volume, and the regulatory context โ CGWA NOC, EIA, or project planning. If you already hold CGWB district reports, prior borewell logs, or piezometric data from the area, send those along: they can reduce the desk study phase by up to a week.
Our team will confirm the scope, timeline, and commercial terms within two working days. Field mobilisation follows upon confirmation, with a detailed schedule aligned to your regulatory deadline or project commissioning date.
Reports signed by BSc/MSc Geology or Hydrogeology professionals with field experience โ defensible at CGWA, SPCB, EIA authority, and NGT review.
Resistivity and VES surveys identify aquifer depth, thickness, and quality before you drill, dramatically reducing dry-well or saline-well risk and the โน3โ8 lakh cost that comes with it.
Step-drawdown plus constant-rate tests deliver transmissivity, storativity, and a defensible sustainable yield figure โ the core number CGWA reviewers use to set permitted extraction limits.
ISO 17025 NABL-accredited lab analysis covering physico-chemical parameters, heavy metals, and microbiological indicators; accepted by CGWA, SPCB, and EIA authorities without question.
Recharge structures โ rainwater harvesting pits, percolation ponds, recharge wells โ designed and sized to meet CGWA's 2024 revised scoring requirements for plan quality and demonstrated capacity.
Reports scoped from the outset to serve both CGWA NOC and EIA baseline groundwater requirements, so a single field mobilisation covers both regulatory needs without duplicate cost.
Confirm use-case, site profile, expected extraction volume, and existing data availability; tailor the survey scope to your specific regulatory requirement from the outset.
Review CGWB district reports, topographic and geological maps, satellite imagery, and existing borewell data to direct field effort efficiently and avoid duplication.
Site visit, resistivity and VES survey across proposed extraction zone, existing well data collection; borewell location and depth recommendations produced from interpreted profiles.
Step-drawdown, constant-rate, and recovery testing on the identified borewell; transmissivity, storativity, and sustainable yield computed from field data using standard hydrogeological methods.
NABL-accredited water quality analysis; recharge-discharge balance computation; artificial recharge structures designed and sized to CGWA 2024 guidelines.
