The cost of a weak logo is rarely cosmetic. Why Stock-Assembled Logos Get Refused at TM

Logos assembled from free icon libraries, generative-AI outputs without provenance, or rebadged stock illustrations get refused at TM examination on grounds of lack of distinctiveness (Section 9 of the Trade Marks Act) or opposition by the original creator (Section 11). By 2026, the IP Office's image-similarity tools surface these collisions instantly. Original artwork — drawn for the brand, owned by the brand under a written assignment — is the only path that registers cleanly and survives examination and any subsequent opposition.

Class Selection Matters
